カイロプラクティックは現在世界中で広まっており、44の国及び地域では法制化されています。その中でもカイロプラクティックの本場アメリカでは医学に準ずる療法であるとして、日々研究が続けられています。

カイロプラクティックは、骨・関節・筋肉を治療してその周りの神経の流れを正常化する事により、体に起こっている様々な障害を直していきます。カイロプラクティックによる治療は、各種検査や診断、ケアはもとより、リハビリテーションの提案や栄養、食事とライフスタイルについての提案も行っています。

Doctor of Chiropracticとは、アメリカの４年制の大学もしくはそれに相当する必要単位を終了し、カイロプラクティック専門大学に３年半行き、取得できる学位です。

カイロプラクティック専門大学では、4200時間、基本的な医学から、レントゲン学、診断学まで様々な専門知識を学びます。また、約1200時間という、大学付属クリニックでのインターンシップ（研修）を行います。

 

カイロプラクティックの治療は背骨や骨盤、関節のアジャストメント(矯正)を致します。背骨や骨盤、関節の歪みを見つけ、ねじれ・傾き・深さなどを三次元的に判断し、その変位の方向・程度に合わせて精密にアジャスト（矯正）します。

アジャストメントの仕方は主に高速低振幅のスラストですが、場合によってはArthrostimのような器具を使う場合もあります。アジャストメントの時に、関節が「ポキッ」となるクリック音がする場合があります。これはキャビテーションと呼ばれる現象で、実際には骨が音を出している訳ではなく関節内にたまった窒素が破裂するときの音と言われています。

 

背骨や骨盤からは筋肉や内臓など体をコントロールする多くの神経が出入りしていて、背骨・骨盤の歪みはそれを邪魔してしまうのです。カイロプラクティックのアジャストメントは、この邪魔された神経の流れを瞬時に正常化し、「治ろうとする」、「良くなろうとする」という人間が生まれながらに持ち合わせている偉大な力”自然治癒力”を最大限に発揮させ、治癒に向かわせます。分かりやすく説明すると、もし家のブレイカーが落ちてしまっているならば、部屋の電気はつきません。どこのブレイカーが落ちているのかを探し出し、ブレイカーのスイッチを入れることをアジャストメントといいます。アジャストメントにより、神経の流れを正し、活性化することが目的なのです。

なぜ背骨が大事なのかというと、脳から始まって神経は全身の隅々までくまなく密に張り巡らされ、体のあらゆる筋肉、内臓、血管、骨などすべてをコントロールしています。痛みや触られる感覚といった五感もすべて神経系の働きによるものです。脳は中央コンピューターのようなもので、神経を介して体の各器官から情報を集めて、体に命令を下し、体はそれに従います。こうした脳と体の情報交換を行っているのが神経システムであり、通信ネットワークのような役割を果たしております。

神経の流れが正常化するということは、関節・筋肉・内臓・ホルモン・血流・感情の状態が良くなり、体が本来の機能を取り戻すことであり、病気や痛み、変形に向かい始めた身体が再び健康へと向かうということなのです。

 

カイロプラクティックケアには初期集中期、健康回復期、健康維持期という3段階に分けたケアを提案しております。初めて来院されたほとんどの患者さんは初期集中期になります。

初期集中期(第一クール)では、慢性または急性の症状で、神経の状態が最も乱れている状態になっています。そのため患者さんは何らかの症状や痛みを感じている状態になります。期間は初診日から1ヶ月程で、週1〜2回カイロプラクティックケアが必要になります。

  

健康回復期(第二クール)では、神経組織が回復し神経伝達も正常化される期間となります。この段階になると、症状や痛みは緩和されてきますが、ケアをやめると、症状はぶり返す恐れがあります。再度同じ症状や痛みを繰り返さないように、予防を目的としています。神経組織は、体の深部に位置しているため、回復には時間が必要になります。期間は初診日から3ヶ月程で週1回のカイロプラクティックケアが必要になります。

健康維持期(第三クール)では、日常生活で、私たちの体は同じ姿勢や、活動、癖を繰り返しています。そのような同じ動作の癖を改善するためには自分の体を自分でケアする知識が必要になります。そのためにも6ヶ月という期間が必要になります。結果、病気や怪我から自分で身を守ることができる状態になり、常に体を健康な状態に維持することができるようになります。
