Achieving Better Family Health is possible

Better Family Health is within your reach with determined changes to your current lifestyle. Have the courage to take the first step towards better health.

Hello, I am Dr Don Lau. I am a family doctor, with a postgraduate diploma in Dermatology, practising in Singapore. I have always believed that patients need and deserve the best possible access to medical information about their health.

In my consultations with patients, I have always spent some time explaining their medical conditions and treatment to them. As part of my patient care, I also suggest proactive and preventive measures that patients can adopt to manage their illness and attain better health.

Click here to learn what you can do to protect you & your family from COVID-19, as well as how to reduce the severity or complications of an infection.

Medicine and Health

Aside from heeding medical advice and taking medicine to treat sickness, you must realize that certain changes in lifestyle and by taking some simple constructive actions, your family's health can be greatly improved.

Physical Health - You can get better fitness through exercise and sports like running and swimming etc.

Fitness and Health - You can avoid or reduce obesity and its related health risks by following a weight loss plan now. You can lose weight at the gym by doing workouts 3 times a week for at least 30 minutes each time.

Diet and Health - You can get better nutrition by having a healthy diet and avoiding junk food.

Strengthen your immune system by taking the necessary vaccines (eg flu vaccine) and nutritional supplements if need be.

You can improve the environment you and your family live in when you quit smoking or avoid substance or drug abuse.

Food and Health - Mothers planning ahead and exercising before and during pregnancy as well as eating a healthy diet can help reduce your child's predisposition to certain diseases. A little precaution goes a long way. Learn more on what to do when you are trying to conceive at

Diet and Nutrition for children - Healthy nutrition for your children will enable them to have a healthier old age with less medical problems.

Disease Prevention

Start on the road to health and fitness by taking immediate action now! Prevention of major chronic and serious diseases such as Diabetes, Stroke or Heart Attack due to Coronary heart disease and Cholesterol, and certain Cancers, requires a holistic health approach.

Through physical activity and sensible diets based on sound nutritional facts, better health and wellness is within your reach. The health benefits are manifold. Exercise has been shown to lead to better stress management and probably reduces the occurrence and severity of anxiety and depression.

It is unfortunate that many people wait until they encounter a medical emergency or require an operation before 'seeing the light'. While they are lying in the recovery room of the hospital, they realize they have to make radical changes to their lives. Armed with health information from their doctor, the internet or health books, they decide to take charge of their personal health and embark on a health plan to improve their quality of life and wellbeing. They hope that it is not too late and that with proper medical care and the necessary lifestyle changes, they can alleviate their medical conditions and resolve their health issues.

Always ensure that you have affordable Family health insurance with adequate coverage. When there is a medical emergency that requires hospitalization, the insurance will prove crucial and essential.

Health Promotion and Patient Education

People are more interested than ever before in the cause and management of their health problems. This website will cover the critical health topics that worry many people around the world.

Health and medicine go hand in glove. I hope that working together with your health care provider or health clinic, you will be able to reap the best from your medical system.

It is always useful to your doctor in the process of diagnosis when you are able to provide complete and relevant past medical history.

'An Ounce of Prevention is worth a Pound of Cure'

I urge you now to take the step you know you must to ensure good general health for you and your family, before you require chronic medication or long term health care. Preparedness for the future is the key to addressing your health concerns. Preventive medicine is the best course to take.

This website focuses on illnesses and their management. It will enable greater input by you in the management of your own illnesses. The medical information has been provided in easy-to-follow, non-technical language for effective communication.

In my experience, better understanding of a problem or potential health issue leads to better cooperation and compliance with treatment.

I hope that the health advice I provide can help you make informed decisions about your health. There is a Family Health Blog with updated health and fitness tips. Certain health products and medical devices such as home blood pressure monitors, are reviewed where appropriate.

If you have any health questions, please feel comfortable about contacting us. I will try to the best of my abilities to address your medical problem in a future health article here.

Good health is priceless. I wish you happiness and all the best in your quest for excellent health.
