Haemoglobinopathy Blood Disorders - Anaemias

Anaemia is a blood condition in which one has a deficiency of haemoglobin, the red pigment in red blood cells which carries oxygen in the blood. This may be due to a reduction in the number of red blood cells caused by decreased production, blood loss, increased destruction or a combination of these factors.

Blood Disorders - Sickle Cell Anaemia

Sickle cell anemia (sickle cell disease) is a disorder of the blood caused by an inherited abnormal hemoglobin (the oxygen-carrying protein within the red blood cells). The abnormal hemoglobin causes distorted (sickled appearing under a microscope) red blood cells.

Thalessaemia Blood Disorder

Thalassaemia is the name for a group of inherited conditions that affect a substance in the blood called haemoglobin. People with thalassaemia produce either no or too little haemoglobin, which is used by red blood cells to carry oxygen around the body.
