Causes of Finger Clubbing - Heart, Lung & Liver Diseases
Finger clubbing is a sign of chronic illness. It is a deformity in the fingernail structure with the result that the nail appears more bulbous/balloon-like in shape.
Finger clubbing is common in patients with chronic lung conditions such as emphysema or tuberculosis, or heart conditions, but can also be a sign of certain liver and intestinal conditions.
In many cases, these conditions are associated with a low levels of oxygen in the blood (hypoxaemia), but other conditions there are likely to be other mechanism of nail clubbing. Some people have naturally clubbed nails while remaining otherwise healthy.
